Day 122 - Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

WELCOME TO TERM 3 !!

- Students started the morning with our community circle routine.

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- During Language this week, students will focus on the sounds "Xx" & "Ch". Today we reviewed the "Xx". Following the lesson, we reinforced the "ks" sound with a worksheet.
During Language we also worked on syllables. We counted the syllables in Easter words then we coloured the picture according to how many syllables each word had. The picture created a beautiful Easter egg.

- For Journal today students wrote about what they did yesterday during the day. 

- After first recess/lunch, students learned a Easter song and then had the chance to create a Easter bunny craft.



- During Math, we continued to work on telling time to the hour. Students completed a time worksheet.

- Students had French class with Mme H before second lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, students continued to learn about community helpers. Together we brainstormed the community helpers and wrote about what they do to help our community. This was completed on a web graphic organizer.

1. Easter Spirit Day: Thursday, April 2nd, please come dressed in your Easter colours.
2. Good Friday and Easter Monday: No school Friday, April 3rd or Monday, April 6th

Day 121 - Monday, March 30th, 2015

HELLO SK BLOG READERS! HAPPY MONDAY!

- Students started the morning with our community circle time. Everyone shared what they did over the weekend & we talked about this week's activities, one of which being EASTER celebrations!

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- This morning, our friend from Grade 1, Jaiden M., read a "Community Helpers"-themed book to the class (Curious George takes a Job).




- During Language this week, students will concentrate on the sounds "Xx" & "ch".

- After first recess/lunch, students had Math; today we practiced the hour & minute hands on the clock & completed a simple worksheet practicing "o-clock".

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before second lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, we visited Mrs. Smith's JK class & watched a video together!

Day 120 - Friday, March 27th, 2015

WELCOME TO TERM 3 !!

- Students started the morning with our community circle time.

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- This morning, we had Reading Buddies with the Grade 7/8 class!





- During Language this week, students concentrated on the sounds "oo" & "Yy".
Today was Show & Share:


- After first recess/lunch, students listened to a story read by our friend Hayden.

- During Math, everyone made their own CLOCK for our unit on TIME.

- Following the Math craft, students made ANOTHER craft that was Spring-themed: an umbrella with raindrops made from white glue!

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before second lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, students watched 2 short videos: one about TELLING TIME (Curious George) and one about COMMUNITY HELPERS (as a small introduction to our next UNIT OF INQUIRY!).

Day 119 - Thursday, March 26th, 2015

WELCOME TO TERM 3 !!

- Students started the morning with our usual community circle routine.

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- During Language this week, students will focus on the sounds "oo" & "Yy".

- For Journal today everyone wrote & illustrated what they're excited for now that it's SPRING!!

- After first recess/lunch, students listened to a story read by our friend Austin.

- During Math, we continued our new unit on TIME & everyone reviewed the numbers on the clock, AM & PM, and short/hour hand & long/minute hand. Students who were able to tell the class what time they go to bed and what time they wake up received an extra sticker on the "Bee-haviour Chart"! Way to go!

- Students had Drama & Music with Mr. Monaghan & French class with Mme Stella before second lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, students finished their Math worksheet from earlier in the day (What activities/tasks take a short amount of time & what takes a long amount of time?). Afterwards, they had time to work with a partner on a FEELINGS word search!

Day 118 - Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 - Casual Day!!

WELCOME TO TERM 3 !!

- Students started the morning with our usual routine.

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- During Language this week, students will focus on the sounds "oo" & "Yy".

- This morning, boys & girls used their language skills to complete a worksheet where they identified vowels & consonants as well as wrote in the appropriate vowels to make real words. Excellent effort all!

- After first recess/lunch, students listened to a story read by our friend Medha.

- During Math, students were introduced to our new unit on TELLING TIME! We discussed A.M. & P.M., wrote in the numbers of the clock and learned about the short/hour hand & long/minute hand.

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before second lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, students continued wrapping up our Unit of Inquiry on Feelings. Everyone has become quite "Knowledgeable" in identifying various types of emotions a person is able to feel! Today students completed another mini-summative task where they write examples of times when they felt certain feelings such as happy/sad/mad/silly, etc. Everyone performed impressively on this assignment!!

Day 117 - Tuesday, March 24th, 2015

WELCOME TO TERM 3 !!

- Students started the morning with our community circle routine.

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- During Language this week, students will focus on the sounds "oo" & "Yy". Today we reviewed the "short oo" & "long oo" sounds & worked on listening to which sound is in words with "oo". Following the lesson, we reinforced this concept with worksheets that focused on this specific sound.

- For Journal today students wrote their "Student's Comments" for their Term 2 report cards (being sent home this Friday):

2. During Term 3, I want to improve...
3. My favourite subject is __________ because...

- After first recess/lunch, students listened to a story read by our friend Nicole.

- During Math, we continued to review Canadian coins.

- Students had Drama & Music with Mr. MonaghanFrench class with Mme Stella before second lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, students started wrapping up our Unit of Inquiry on Feelings. Everyone has become quite "Knowledgeable" in identifying various types of emotions a person is able to feel! Today students completed one mini-summative task where they were instructed to match the smiley face picture to the appropriate feeling on the page. Students who were able to recognize faces beyond the basic feelings achieved Level 4 understanding of this particular task! Well done!

Day 116 - Monday, March 23rd, 2015 - WELCOME BACK EVERYONE!!

WELCOME TO TERM 3 !!


Wishing Joey a Happy 6th Birthday!!


- We are so happy to see everyone back at school after 2 weeks!!

- Students started the morning with our usual routine; everyone was excited to share what they did over
the March Break!!

- In the morning, the SKs went to Gym class with Ms. Lovan.

- During Language this week, students will focus on the sounds "oo" & "Yy".

- For Journal today everyone wrote & illustrated what they did over the March Break! Great writing everyone!

- After first recess/lunch, students listened to a story read by our friend Aarav.

- During Math, we reviewed the Canadian coins from before the break. Students counted coins in piggy banks on their worksheet and they also drew coins in a piggy bank & counted how much they had.

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before second lunch/recess. 

- At the end of the day, students were treated to a birthday surprise for Joey's birthday! Everyone also completed unfinished work from earlier in the day.
