Day 92 - Friday, January 30th, 2015

Happy Friday!

- We began the morning with our calendar routine. Anthony was our special helper & he did a great job leading the morning talk!

- Everyone had an active & safe time during Gym today with Ms. Lovan!

- This week, In Language, we continued with Jolly Phonics - this week's focus was on "ie" & "oa". Today was Show & Share:

- Today's Storytime with the SKs was led by Joey! He read "Playful Puppy" to the class - way to go!

- During Math, students reviewed more SUBTRACTION. We will be testing our skills with a Math Test next TUESDAY, FEB. 3rd!

* Review sheets have been sent home! *

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before 2nd lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, students reviewed the season FALL & illustrated pictures for captions relating to this season, such as "Leaves turn colour"/"Harvest time"/"Days get shorter"/"Cooler Days".

- Before heading to the gym for home-time, we watched a couple of short videos about VALENTINE'S DAY, which is coming up in a couple of weeks, and discussed the theme of love, which ties to our NEXT Unit of Inquiry on "Feelings"!

Next week, students will be showing their acquired knowledge and skills when completing their Summative Tasks for the SEASONS unit of inquiry! During that time students will demonstrate their learnings about the different elements of all the seasons.

Day 91 - Thursday, January 29th, 2015

Happy Thursday!

- We began the morning with our calendar routine. Titi was our special helper & he did a great job leading the morning talk!

- Everyone had an active & safe time during Gym today with Ms. Lovan!

- This week, In Language, we continued with Jolly Phonics - this week's focus will be on "ie" & "oa". Today students continued to practice the "oa" di-graph to enhance their language skills; we completed a worksheet to practice.

- Today's Storytime with the SKs was led by NIHAL! He was being quite the risk-taker!!

- During Math, students reviewed more SUBTRACTION. We will be testing our skills with a Math Test next TUESDAY, FEB. 3rd!

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before 2nd lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, we watched a video with the Grade 3's as a fun treat!

After this week, students will be showing their acquired knowledge and skills when completing their Summative Tasks early next week for the SEASONS unit of inquiry! During that time students will demonstrate their learnings about the different elements of all the seasons.

Day 90 - Wednesday, January 28th, 2015

Happy Wednesday!

- We began the morning with our calendar routine. Jacob was our special helper & he did a great job leading the morning talk!

- Everyone had an active & safe time during Gym today with Ms. Lovan!

- This week, In Language, we continued with Jolly Phonics - this week's focus will be on "ie" & "oa". Today students practiced the "oa" di-graph to enhance their language skills; we completed a worksheet to practice.

- Today's Storytime with the SKs was led by ESHAN! He did a fantastic job reading his book to the class!

- During Math, students reviewed how to use a number line to practice more SUBTRACTION. We will be testing our skills with a Math Test next week! Review sheets will be sent home before the weekend!

- Students had French class with Mme Stella before 2nd lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, we worked on our Unit of Inquiry about The 4 Seasons, which is coming to an end soon! Today students worked on comparing SUMMER/WINTER; we also discussed the day & night cycle (morning/afternoon/night) and what happens at particular times of the day.

After this week, students will be showing their acquired knowledge and skills when completing their Summative Tasks early next week! During that time students will demonstrate their learnings about the different elements of all the seasons.

Day 89 - Tuesday, January 27th, 2015

Happy Tuesday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACOB!!

- We began the morning with our calendar routine. Medha was our special helper & she did a great job leading the morning talk! Everyone also sang "Happy Birthday" to Jacob!

- Everyone had an active & safe time during Gym today with Ms. Lovan!

- This week, In Language, we continued with Jolly Phonics - this week's focus will be on "ie" & "oa". Today students continued reinforcing the "ie" di-graph in their skills; we completed a worksheet - students identified the words that matched the pictures and rhymed "ie" words using a word bank.

- During our "Daily 5" time, students "read to a buddy" - they did an awesome job during this time!

- Today's Storytime with the SKs was led by ADAM! He did a fantastic job reading his book "Hugs" to the class!

- During Math, students learned how to use a number line to practice more SUBTRACTION. We will be testing our skills with a Math Test next week! Stay tuned for more updates :).

- This afternoon, the entire school got together for our PANORAMIC school picture!!

- Students had Drama & Music class with Mr. Monaghan & French class with Mme Stella before 2nd lunch/recess.

- At the end of the day, we worked on our Unit of Inquiry about The 4 Seasons, which is coming to an end soon! Today students continued focusing on SUMMER; After this week, students will be showing their acquired knowledge and skills when completing their Summative Tasks early next week! During that time students will demonstrate their learnings about the different elements of all the seasons.

IB ATTITUDES

ACTION IS IMPORTANT!!

Action is a significant aspect of the IB learning process. Please become a follower of the SK class blog to post any action your child has completed at home. When his/her name appears on the blog, your child will receive house points. This is to help further their knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Students are to use what they have learned and apply it to the “real world.” For example, if we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Action varies and ranges from something small to something very large; as long as students are understanding the concepts, action is important no matter the size. Thank you for your cooperation :)
