IB UNIT OF INQUIRY

  • HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES
  • "More than a Feeling"

IB LEARNER PROFILES

Students at St. Jude's Academy strive to be IB Learners...

They are:

1. Inquirers (SEPTEMBER)
2. Knowledgeable (OCTOBER)
3. Thinkers (NOVEMBER)
4. Communicators (DECEMBER)
5. Risk-taker (JANUARY)
6. Open- Minded (FEBRUARY)
7. Caring (MARCH)
8. Balanced (APRIL)
9. Principled (MAY)
10. Reflective (JUNE)

IB ATTITUDES

We at SJA expect our students to develop and apply the following attitudes:

  • Appreciation: appreciating the wonder and beauty of the world and its people

  • Commitment: being committed to their learning, preserving and showing self-discipline and responsibility

  • Confidence: feeling confident in their ability as learners, having the courage to take risks, applying what they have learned and making appropriate decisions

  • Cooperation: cooperating, collaborating and leading or following as the situation demands

  • Creativity: being creative and imaginative in their thinking and in their approach to problems and dilemmas

  • Curiosity: being curious about the nature of learning and the world, its people and cultures

  • Empathy: imaginatively projecting themselves into another's situation, in order to understand his/her thoughts, reasoning and emotions

  • Enthusiasm: enjoying learning

  • Independence: thinking and acting independently, making their own judgments based on reasoned principles and being able to defend their judgments

  • Integrity: having integrity and a firm sense of fairness and honesty

  • Respect: respecting themselves, others and the world around them

  • Tolerance: feeling sensitivity towards differences and diversity in the world and being responsive to the needs of others

ACTION IS IMPORTANT!!

Action is a significant aspect of the IB learning process. Please become a follower of the SK class blog to post any action your child has completed at home. When his/her name appears on the blog, your child will receive house points. This is to help further their knowledge about what has been learned within the classroom. Students are to use what they have learned and apply it to the “real world.” For example, if we are learning about recycling, students might go home and tell you that they want to implement a recycling program at home, or they may do something simple like telling you that something you were throwing in the garbage may be recycled. Action varies and ranges from something small to something very large; as long as students are understanding the concepts, action is important no matter the size. Thank you for your cooperation :)
