Wednesday, April 30th, 2014 - COMMUNITY HELPERS DAY!!

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK!!

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperPranav
During Journal time today, students wrote about "If someone is being bullied, I would ..."
- This week's JOLLY PHONICS will be on the sounds of "er/ar". Today students students practiced the sound "ar" and using whiteboard strips, everyone practiced sounding out and spelling words with this particular sound. Then they completed a worksheet to practice. 
- We are into the 6th week of the FUN 5th Unit of Inquiry on COMMUNITY HELPERS! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we organize ourselves". Today the SKs presented their Summative Projects on which Community Helper they would like to be when they grow up! What a fantastic job they did!
- Today students practiced singing and actions for the song that they will perform in June for Arts Night - The Lion King's "I Just Can't Wait to be King"
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p. 23-24.
- Students attended GYM/ART/FRENCH class at their assigned times.

- It is very important for agendas to be checked & signed daily.

HAPPY TUESDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperCherin
During Journal time today, students wrote about "Today I will be a better friend by..."
- This week's JOLLY PHONICS will be on the sounds of "er/ar". Today students students practiced the sound "er" and completed a worksheet. 
- We are into the 6th week of the FUN 5th Unit of Inquiry on COMMUNITY HELPERS! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we organize ourselves". Just a friendly reminder that the Summative Project is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 30!
- Today students practiced singing and actions for the song that they will perform in June for Arts Night - The Lion King's "I Just Can't Wait to be King"
- In Math this week, students will spend one more week practicing the key concepts of graphing in the Data Management unit. Today everyone practiced "reading" a graph and answering questions about the graph!
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p. 23-24.
- Students attended GYM/FRENCH class at their assigned times.

ANTI-BULLYING WEEK!!

SJA students kickstarted this week with watching a music video about bullying and the effects of bullying on others. This week, we will start everyday off with different presentations and lessons to teach and support anti-bullying!

TODAY WE HAD THE SECOND HALF OF THE
MOVIE & ICE CREAM PARTY!!

HAPPY MONDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperJayden
During Journal time today, students wrote about "I am wearing pink today because..."
- This week's JOLLY PHONICS will be on the sounds of "er/ar". Today students students practiced the sound "ar" and using whiteboard strips, everyone practiced sounding out and spelling words with this particular sound.
- We are into the 6th week of the FUN 5th Unit of Inquiry on COMMUNITY HELPERS! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we organize ourselves". Just a friendly reminder that the Summative Project is due this Wednesday, April 30!
- Today students practiced singing and actions for the song that they will perform in June for Arts Night - The Lion King's "I Just Can't Wait to be King"
- This afternoon, the SKs finished watching THE LION KING as part of the top class prize from the Spring Fundraiser/Skateathon. They also enjoyed eating ice cream during the movie!
- In Math this week, students will spend one more week practicing the key concepts of graphing in the Data Management unit. 
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p. 23-24.

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperAvaneesh
During Journal time today, students wrote a story in their WRITING A book.
- This week's JOLLY PHONICS will be on the sound of "ue". Today we had Show & Share!
- We are into the 5th week of the FUN 5th Unit of Inquiry on COMMUNITY HELPERS! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we organize ourselves". Today the "written portion" of the Summative project was sent home with the notice form that will inform parents of what is expected for this end-of-unit project that will be due next Wednesday!
- Today students practiced singing and actions for the song that they will perform in June for Arts Night - The Lion King's "I Just Can't Wait to be King"
- This afternoon, the SKs started watching THE LION KING as part of the top class prize. We will be finishing the movie next week, as well as eating ice cream!
- In Math this week, students will continue practicing key concepts by counting tally marks, surveying students and graphing in the Data Management unit. We will be practicing more next week to prepare for a test soon!
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p. 21-22.
- Students attended GYM/FRENCH class at their assigned times.

HAPPY THURSDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special Helper: Aarnav
During Journal time today, students wrote a story in their WRITING A book.
- This week's JOLLY PHONICS will be on the sound of "ue". Tomorrow is Show & Share!
- We are into the 5th week of the FUN 5th Unit of Inquiry on COMMUNITY HELPERS! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we organize ourselves". Today students completed the "written portion" of the Summative project of this unit, that is ending very shortly. Everyone had to decide if they still have the same answer as from the first week of the unit regarding what they want to be when they grow up, or if they've changed their mind, as well as what the community helper needs to do the job. Tomorrow students will bring home their writing along with the notice form that will inform parents of what is expected for this end-of-unit project that will be due next week. 
- Today students practiced singing the song that they will perform in June for Arts Night - The Lion King's "I Just Can't Wait to be King"This week we have been adding actions to the singing!
- In Math this week, students will continue practicing key concepts by counting tally marks, surveying students and graphing in the Data Management unit. Today we had fun sorting, tallying and graphing SMARTIES! Students were able to bring home their graphs and more importantly, the Smarties :)
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p. 21-22.
- Students attended GYM/ART/FRENCH class at their assigned times.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperMacKenzie
During Journal time today, students wrote a story in their WRITING A book.
- This week's JOLLY PHONICS will be on the sound of "ue". Students brainstormed words with "ue". We then worked together to complete a fill-in-the-blank worksheet.
- We are into the 5th week of the FUN 5th Unit of Inquiry on COMMUNITY HELPERS! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we organize ourselves". Today students focused on the community helper FIREFIGHTER. Everyone brainstormed words that describe a fireman and then they wrote a sentence and illustrated a picture about the profession. Students also made a mini Fireman booklet.
- Today students practiced singing the song that they will perform in June for Arts Night - The Lion King's "I Just Can't Wait to be King". This week we are adding actions to the singing!
- In Math this week, students will continue practicing key concepts by counting tally marks, surveying students and graphing in the Data Management unit. Today the SKs from both classes got together and surveyed 10 students each, asking the question "What is your Favourite Season?". After recording the data using tally marks, everyone went back to their seats and graphed the results of their findings.  
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p. 21-22.
- Students attended GYM/FRENCH class at their assigned times.
