Happy FRIDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperSophia.
During Journal time today, students wrote about yesterday's oral presentations and which ones they enjoyed the most and why. 
- Students worked on JOLLY PHONICS this morning; this week we focused on the sounds of "Xx" & "ch". Today we had Show & Share: Xylophone, ketchup chips and Chuck from Angry Birds!
- This afternoon, students engaged in a early St. Patrick's Day craft; everyone made a leprechaun!
- We are into the 5th week of our 4th Unit of Inquiry about "Feelings"! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we express ourselves". 
- This afternoon, students had Reading Buddies with Mrs. Nelson/Ms. Barber's Grade 3 class!








- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p.13-14.
- Students attended GYM/FRENCH class at their assigned times.

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014 - Casual Day!

JOIN US FOR SJA'S ORAL PRESENTATIONS
Thursday, February 27th @ 9am


JKA-Grade 3 poetry starting at 9:00am  
Grade 4-9 speeches starting at 12:15pm. 
ALL families and friends are encouraged to attend this event to support the SJA students and to hear from/interact with three very exciting judges. 

1) Lesley Kenny- Writer and Co-Editor for Descant (Canadian Literacy Magazine)
2) Bruce Hunt- Founder of Toronto Speakers Academy, President of Downtown Toronto Toastmasters Club and Chief Organizer of Fear of Public Speaking (meet up group)
3) Brianna Locke- Youth and Student Engagement Provincial Leader

Ms. DaCosta's Grade 2 class along with Brianna will be having a final Rainbow Loom rings ($.50) and bracelets ($1.00-$2.00) sale in support of school supplies for World Vision.  All SJA students, teachers and families are encouraged to show school spirit and reflect on how much we can and are making a difference for children around the world.  The sale will be from 11:30-11:50 in Ms. DaCosta's classroom (right across from the gym).  Thank you!

We look forward to having you all at SJA for this exciting event and Congratulations to ALL SJA students!

Happy WEDNESDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperJordan.
During Journal time today, students wrote a prediction of the beginning, middle and end of a story before we read it together afterwards.
- Students completed a sequencing activity this morning.
- Students worked on JOLLY PHONICS this morning; this week we will focus on the sounds of "Xx" & "ch". Today everyone practiced the sound "ch". We brainstormed a list of words that have this sound and then students completed a practice worksheet. 
- Today in Math, we continued with telling time; students practiced telling time by the hour - writing the time on the clock as well as drawing the hands on clocks when given particular times.
- We are into the 5th week of our 4th Unit of Inquiry about "Feelings"! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we express ourselves". 
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p.13-14.

Happy TUESDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special Helper: Noah.
During Journal time today, students wrote about "why it is important to know how to read time".
- Students worked on JOLLY PHONICS this morning; this week we will focus on the sounds of "Xx" & "ch"
- Today in Math, we continued with telling time; first students finished their paper clocks. Afterwards, we reviewed the hour hand and minute hand arrows. Students were given an introduction to how to read time to the hour. They practiced with a worksheet after the lesson. 
- We are into the 5th week of our 4th Unit of Inquiry about "Feelings"! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we express ourselves". This afternoon students completed yesterday's Feelings booklet, writing about a compilation of different feelings and what might cause each one. 
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p.13-14.
- Students attended GYM/ART/FRENCH class at their assigned times.

Happy MONDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperPranav.
During Journal time today, students who attended the Gala wrote about that, while others wrote about what other plans they had during the weekend.
- Students worked on JOLLY PHONICS this morning; this week we will focus on the sounds of "Xx" & "ch"
- Today in Math, we continued with telling time; students started making their own clocks with paper plates, writing the numbers on it as well making small and big hands for the clock as well. We will complete this task tomorrow.
- We are into the 5th week of our 4th Unit of Inquiry about "Feelings"! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we express ourselves". This afternoon students started working on a Feelings booklet, writing about a compilation of different feelings.  
- At the end of the day, students worked on sounds in their BLENDS book. This book will be sent home & KEPT home for practice while we also work on it at school. This week everyone will practice the blends on p.13-14.

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special Helper: Cherin.
During Journal time today, students worked on another assignment to help them understand the learner profile BALANCED.
- Students worked on JOLLY PHONICS this morning; this week we focused on the sound of "oo". Today we had Show & Share (2 books & loot bag).
- This morning Ms. Genco's class and our class sat together again to finish the rest of the poem presentations! Again, congratulations to all, and especially to the ones who will go on stage in front of the school next week (THURSDAY, FEB. 27th @ at 9am):

- This afternoon, students who are attending the Gala rehearsed their performances while the rest of us watched some of the Olympic men's hockey game as well as completed an Olympics booklet.

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our 
Special HelperJayden.
During Journal time today, students wrote a Blends quiz to practice all the blend sounds we have learned so far. It was well done for the most part, but some of us still need to practice distinguishing "b" & "d" !
- Students worked on JOLLY PHONICS this morning; this week we will focus on the sound of "oo"
- This morning Ms. Genco's class and our class got together and had the in-class POEM PRESENTATIONS! Congratulations boys & girls for their great efforts for this assignment. We got through most of the poems today, but we will have to finish listening to the remaining students tomorrow! Ms. Genco & I will post the results tomorrow :)
- This afternoon, students gathered in the Gym for a school-wide GALA PERFORMANCE REHEARSAL.
- We are into the 4th week of our 4th Unit of Inquiry about "Feelings"! This unit is categorized under the IB theme "How we express ourselves".
