Day 19... Happy MONDAY!

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our Special HelperMarcus.
- During Journal today, students wrote about who they like to play with at recess. 
- Students continued their JOLLY PHONICS today: this week's focus is on the letter "Pp". Everyone did a fantastic job brainstorming a whole bunch of words that start and end with this letter!  
- This week's vowel sound will be on the letter "i"; today we had our first lesson on the short "i" sound!
- Continuing our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year on the 5 senses... To start Week 5, students did an activity on the sense of TOUCH; everyone was given a worksheet of different pictures, and they had to sort/cut & paste the pictures into a "To Touch" or "Not to Touch" category. 
- During Math, students worked on a couple of pages of their Math Assessment for Term 1.
- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning), ART (Ms. Pattenick) FRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

- Continuing our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year on the 5 senses...Students WATCHED Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who while enjoying delicious popcorn! This tied in perfectly with our unit; for half of the movie students only LISTENED without any visuals, while for the other half of the movie they only WATCHED without any audio. On Monday, students will write a journal reflection about whether they enjoyed only listening to the movie or only watching the movie, and why.



- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning) FRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

Thursday, September 26th, 2013 - TERRY FOX RUN!

HELLO READERS of the

Day 17... Happy THURSDAY! 

Pranav read a funny book to the class today :)

- The SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our Special Helper: Elina.
- This morning the students of SJA walked to the park & participated in the TERRY FOX RUN. What a great time everyone had!

- During Journal time today, we first read a book about Terry Fox, and then students completed a sheet where they drew themselves running in the run as well as pictures of who their personal heroes are.
- Students continued their JOLLY PHONICS today: this week's focus has been on the letter "Tt"
- Continuing our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year on the 5 senses... Continuing with Week 4 (of 6), students explored all of their senses using POPCORN!
- Students listened to the book "Horton Hears a Who" in preparation for tomorrow, when they will WATCH this Dr. Seuss story (while enjoying more popcorn).
- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning) FRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

Wednesday, September 25th, 2013 - Casual Day!

Day 16... Happy CASUAL WEDNESDAY! 

- The colourfully-dresseSK students started their morning with calendar time led by our Special Helper: Anshuman.
- Zachary read a book to the class today:



Hayden & Elina shared books with us as well:





- Thank you to students for bringing in books to share with the class; everyone loves listening to all types of stories each and every day!
- During Journal time today, students wrote about what their favourite thing to do in the Fall is. Many of the students love jumping into leaves & picking apples and/or pumpkins.
- Students started their JOLLY PHONICS today: this week's focus will be on the letter "Tt". Today students practiced with a worksheet.
- Our vowel of the week will be "Ee". Today we had another lesson on long "e". Students first reviewed the vowel sounds for "Aa" from last week and then we practiced the sound for short & long "e", followed by a worksheet.
- Continuing our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year on the 5 senses... Continuing with Week 4 (of 6), students had a lesson on the sense of SMELL. Using lemons, students first had a blind smell test,which most of them figured out was the scent of a LEMON! Next, students tasted the lemon & enjoyed it more than I thought they would! Next, we made a chart of Good Smells & Bad Smells! Students enjoyed this very much! We even went outside to smell flowers, grass & other scents from outside!
- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning) FRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

- SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our Special HelperSophia.
- Thank you to students for bringing in books to share with the class; everyone loves listening to all types of stories each and every day!
- During Journal time today, students had ANOTHER Spelling Pre-Test to prepare for this Friday's test. Overall, today's results were better; keep on studying those Spelling Words this week!
- Students started their JOLLY PHONICS today: this week's focus will be on the letter "Tt". Today students practiced printing upper & lower case for this letter in their "Writing A" book.
- Our vowel of the week will be "Ee". Today we had another lesson on short "e". Students first reviewed the vowel sounds for "Aa" from last week and then we practiced the sound for short "e", followed by a worksheet.
- Continuing our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year on the 5 senses... Continuing with Week 4 (of 6), students had another lesson on the sense of HEARING; today we listened to a variety of sounds & then students guessed what sound it was. Everyone seemed to enjoy this activity!
- As well, students had a mini-lesson on "Sign Language", which ties in with our UOI; it is important to introduce this concept as they need to understand that not all people have full use of their 5 senses.
- Students' Math Tests were sent home today to be looked at & signed!
- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning), ART (Ms. PattenickFRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

Day 9... Happy MONDAY! 

BOSCO READING TO THE CLASS!

 GREAT JOB!

- SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our Special Helper: Bosco.
- During Journal time today, students had a Spelling Pre-Test to prepare for this Friday's test; we will be doing a couple more of these this week to help students with this type of work, which they are not used to yet. Keep on studying those Spelling Words this week!
- Students started their JOLLY PHONICS today: this week's focus will be on the letter "Tt". Today students did a wonderful job of brainstorming words that begin with this letter.
- Our vowel of the week will be "Ee". Today we had a lesson on short "e". Students first reviewed the vowel sounds for "Aa" from last week and then we practiced the sound for short "e", followed by a worksheet that many did a super job completing!
- Continuing our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year on the 5 senses... To start off Week 4, students discussed the sense of HEARING; as a class we brainstormed different sounds that we hear often. Following our discussion, we went outside to the front of the school to listen to sounds. Many heard the sound of trucks/car zooming by as well as wind blowing. Some also heard birds chirping.
- Students wrote their first Math Test of the school year! Tests will be sent home tomorrow to be looked at & signed!
- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning) FRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

- Our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year is on the 5 senses this week students have explored and expanded their knowledge on the senses of SIGHT & TASTE.
- To review September's Learner Profile, which is OPEN-MINDED, students listened to STELLALUNA again & then watched a Youtube video of the book :)



- MATH -> Review sheets have been sent in preparation for the MATH TEST on MONDAY, SEPT. 23rd!
- Students attended GYM (Mr. Browning), ART (Ms. PattenickFRENCH (Mme. Stella) classes at their assigned times.

HELLO READERS of the 
Senior Kindergarten BLOG!!

Day 9... Happy THURSDAY! 

- SK students started their morning with calendar time led by our Special HelperNoah.
- Our SK friend Avaneesh brought in ANOTHER wonderful SENSES-related book, the very famous "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle! Students enjoyed the book and we even read it TWICE! Following the book, everyone wrote in their journals: "I like the part when the caterpillar ate the ____________."

- Students continued their JOLLY PHONICS today: this week's focus will be on the letter "Aa". Students continued practicing vowel sounds for "Aa", both short & long. This is a challenging task; everyone is encouraged to keep practicing at school and at home!
- Our first IB Unit of Inquiry of the year is on the 5 senses today students continued expanding their knowledge on the sense of TASTE. We also reviewed SWEET/SALTY/SOUR/BITTER.
- In Math, students reviewed counting backwards from 10 to 1 and worked on "Fill in the missing numbers". Finally, everyone completed a few pages in their Math Journals.
Note: Review sheets will be sent home TOMORROW in preparation for the MATH TEST on MONDAY, SEPT. 23rd!
- Students had CENTRE TIME today! Each group switched to a different centre from last week & they were able to experience a new activity.
