Thursday, February 28th, 2013 - POEM/SPEECH PRESENTATIONS

Tristan's shirt on Casual Day

Bonjour,

Students started Wednesday with the school-wide ORAL PRESENTATIONS!! Super, Super job well-done from our finalists!!!

Students were eagerly awaiting today for the firefighters to come visit in their fire truck, but unfortunately the firemen were called on for an emergency!! Disappointment filled us all; however, we have re-scheduled with them for next Friday and hope we can see them then :)
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime with a student leading the read aloud. Students then completed a Community Helper cut & paste activity to test their knowledge on what different people use for their specific jobs. Following that, students wrote a journal entry on how they felt after hearing the news that the fire truck couldn't come see us today. As expected, everyone expressed that they were sad/disappointed.
Students also worked on Geometry Art today; they chose a firefighter-related picture and constructed it by ONLY cutting out different shapes and putting them together.
Before second lunch/recess, students had Gym with Mr. Browning.
At the end of the day, students had their lesson in Phonics. This week we will be focusing on "ch"-sound words. Students completed a worksheet to practice "ch". We also continued practicing this week's Blend (p.11).
Show & Share for "ch" will be tomorrow - Friday, March 1st.

Bonjour,

Students started Tuesday with daily journal writing and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students attended French this morning.
For the rest of the morning, being the last week of the unit, we started reviewing some key concepts from the current unit on Community Helpers. Students worked on a sequencing activity about postal workers. Students wrote what their job of choice is and drew a detailed picture.
Before lunch, students continued discussing Feelings by re-listening to the story from yesterday (Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse); afterwards their task was to RE-TELL the beginning, middle and end by writing & illustrating main events from the book. This was a challenge and test of everyone's memory and listening skills!
