Friday, November 30th, 2012 - TERM 1 REPORT CARDS

Bonjour,


The SKs started off Friday with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). 
Students spent the entire morning working on different tasks to wrap up the super-busy week we've had! Students completed a coin review sheet, a Christmas sorting sheet and a "Seasons" writing assignment.
Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). We then had Show & Share for "Jj". Thank you for those who shared a "J"acket, "J"ar and "J"ellybeans/"J"ujubes!! 
After attending Gym class with Ms. Lopez, students had their Art activity; today students made a "Christmas Countdown" tree! Only 25 days left until the special day :)
At the end of the day, students had Reading Buddies with Ms. Elliott's class. They then packed up their agenda bags & report cards and got ready for home!

Bonjour,


The SKs started off Thursday with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). 
Students practiced French with Madame Stella and had Drama class after.
For the remainder of the morning, students discussed all 4 seasons again for our new Unit of Inquiry; students each coloured and put together a "My 4 Seasons booklet" and then wrote about what their favourite season is and why.
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). Students then had Math and they practiced Money concepts: today students learned about the quarter and completed worksheets to help them further understand this coin.
At the end of the day, students had Phonics; today we had continued our week on "Jj" and students practiced identifying words and pictures with the letter.
Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012 - CASUAL DAY

Bonjour,


The casual SKs started off Wednesday with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). 
Students practiced French with Madame Stella and had Music class after.
For the remainder of the morning, students read a story reinforcing November's learner profile: "Principled". We read a story and wrote and drew about how it is important to know the truth before deciding to place judgment on others. Students also reviewed and completed a worksheet testing them on all short and long vowels.
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). Students then had a full afternoon of Math where they practiced Money concepts (penny, nickel, and dime).
At the end of the day, students had Phonics; today we had continued our week on "Jj" and students practiced identifying words and pictures with the letter.
Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)

Bonjour,

The SKs started off Tuesday with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). 
Students practiced French with Madame Stella and had Drama class after.
For the remainder of the morning, students started their third Unit of Inquiry for the year! For the next unit the boys & girls will be learning about SEASONS
The Central Idea for this unit is: "Seasonal changes affect humans." Today students listened to a read aloud about the 4 seasons and as a prior knowledge activity they had to draw a picture for each season. This was done very well and we look forward to learning about each season in more detail in the coming weeks!
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). In Math, students then had an extremely challenging lesson on nickels &  pennies; we worked on a sheet together as a class.
Students also had "additional" practice on addition
At the end of the day, students had Phonics; today we continued "Jj" and completed a worksheet. Students also reviewed and completed a worksheet practicing ALL short & long vowels.
Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)

The SKs started off Monday with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). 
Students practiced French with Madame Stella and had Music class after.
For the remainder of the morning, students talked about the feeling of being Angry during our IB unit on "Feelings". We talked about "Kelso's Choices" and students coloured the choice wheel for Kelso's Choices. 
Students also reviewed and completed a worksheet practicing short & long "u" and the magic "e" rule.  
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). Students then had a pop Math quiz on addition. They did a great job! Students also selected items from their IB folders to put into their IB Portfolio binders.
At the end of the day, students had Phonics; today we had a lesson on "Jj" and students practiced printing in their Writing with Phonics book.
Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)

Friday, November 23rd, 2012 - Last Day of Unit 2 (Let's Get Festive! Holidays)

Bonjour,

The SKs started off Friday with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). 
Students practiced French with Madame Stella and had their November Spelling Test. Students are commended on their marks for the tests; it is obvious how much they studied in the month of November. Keep it up! 
For the remainder of the morning, students had a catch-up day where they finished any incomplete work from earlier in the week. Students then had a review on short "u" and a lesson on long "u". They made a mini-book and completed a worksheet practicing long "u" and the magic "e" rule.  
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). Students then had Reading Buddies with Ms. Elliott's class!
At the end of the day, students had Art; as a follow-up from the field trip we had on Tuesday, students read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" (another book by Eric Carle, who wrote "Brown Bear, Brown Bear"). Students then made their very own hungry caterpillar!

Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)

Students continued presentations for their summative project for Unit 2.  
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). In Math today, students had a review on the penny and dime. We then had another lesson on the nickel and completed a worksheet. Some worksheets have been sent home for extra practice. 
At the end of the day, students had Phonics and began practicing short "u".  Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)

Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)
For the remainder of the morning, since this is our LAST week of Unit 2 (Let's Get Festive: Holidays), students continued working on their "Reflections" booklet on all the holidays we have discussed and learned about during the past weeks. For each holiday students were required to draw a picture and write a sentence about the holiday. This is a challenging and long task, and we will be working on this for most of the week.

The SKs started Monday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Music class afterwards. 
Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)
For the remainder of the morning, since this is our LAST week of Unit 2 (Let's Get Festive: Holidays), students worked on a "Reflections" booklet on all the holidays we have discussed and learned about during the past weeks. Students then practiced French with Madame Stella.  Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert that will occur in December :)
For the remainder of the morning, students worked on their vowel sounds. They have now become more familiar with short/long a, e, and i. Today was the introduction to short "o"
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). In our Unit of Inquiry, students listened to a story about Santa and then completed a worksheet where they had to count syllables for Christmas-related words. Students also coloured their very own Santa! We also had Reading Buddies with Ms. Elliott's class.
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas. Today was Mr. R's last day at St. Jude's. We would like to wish him good luck in the future! We will miss you!
At the end of the day, students had Art & made a Santa craft! They thoroughly enjoyed this task!

In our Unit of Inquiry today, we reviewed some of our previous holidays as well as the term "International Mindedness" from yesterday, and then students learned about Hanukkah; we talked about some similarities between this holiday & Kwanzaa by watching Sesame Street videos. Students also made a Menorrah candle craft as a follow-up for Hanukkah
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). In Math, the SKs worked hard on their addition worksheet! Students also practiced singing their songs for the Christmas concert!
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas 
At the end of the day, students worked on "Bb" in Phonics & completed a worksheet where they had to practice identifying the letter sound. We also practiced the short "o" vowel sound.

Bonjour,

The SKs started Wednesday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Music class afterwards. In our Unit of Inquiry today, students learned an important IB term: International Mindedness. We had a read aloud with a story that was about how it is okay to be different and not to judge others. Students then created themselves using a "gingerbread man" template, cut them out, and we will display them outside our classroom on the wall to represent "International Mindedness" and tolerance towards all.  
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). In Math, the SKs worked long and hard on adding! I was very proud of their effort & focus during this task!
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas 
At the end of the day, students worked on "Bb" in Phonics & practiced printing the letter in their workbook. We also reviewed short & long "i" vowel sounds.
