Wednesday, October 31st, 2012 - HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween Folks,

The SKs started spooky Wednesday off with an exciting "Mummify the Teacher" house game, followed by bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). What a joy to see boys & girls in their awesome costumes!
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Music class immediately after. 
Before heading to the Gym for the Halloween Festival, students spent the day having fun with Halloween colouring, activities & crafts :)
 
STUDENTS ATTENDED THE HALLOWEEN FALL FESTIVAL FROM 230pm UNTIL THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY. A BIG THANKS TO MS. ELLIOTT & THE STUDENT COUNCIL FOR ORGANIZING THIS SPECIAL & FUN EVENT :)

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 - PICTURE DAY!

* HALLOWEEN FALL FESTIVAL FROM 230-4pm *

Bonjour,

The SKs started Tuesday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Drama class immediately after. For the rest of the morning, in our Unit of Inquiry  for Holidays, students listened to a Halloween story (T-1 day!) and as a follow-up they completed Halloween-themed graphing activities (that ties in perfectly with Math) It is evident that students are looking forward to the Halloween Fall Festival on Wednesday!
After first lunch/recess, students had their pictures taken for Picture Day. Upon returning to class, the SKs had a lesson in Math; today students began exploring ADDITION! This will be quite the challenging feat, but I'm hoping everyone will be risk-takers and try their best!
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.  
At the end of the day, the SKs worked on Phonics. This week we will work on letters "Gg" & "Oo". Today students continued working on "Gg" and practiced with a worksheet. They also practiced the short "e" vowel sound again with another worksheet.
Show & Share for "Gg" & "Oo" will be on FRIDAY, Nov. 2nd.

The SKs started Monday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Music class immediately after. For the rest of the morning, in our Unit of Inquiry  for Holidays, students listened to a Halloween story (T-2 days!) and then as a class we made a list of "Halloween Safety Rules" to follow. Finally, students completed a journal response (with illustration) on "What is your favourite part about Halloween?" Congratulations to those students who are being risk-takers and trying to sound words out on their own before asking for help!
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). The SKs then had a lesson in Math; today students began learning about Money, an important concept to start building as to gain knowledge from here on out. Students focused on the penny & completed a worksheet on counting pennies.
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.  
ATTENTION: GYM CLOTHES ARE TO BE WORN ONLY ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS!
At the end of the day, the SKs worked on Phonics. This week we will work on letters "Gg" & "Oo". Today students worked on "Gg" and practiced printing in their Writing with Phonics book. Students also practiced the short "e" vowel sound via a worksheet.
Show & Share for "Gg" & "Oo" will be on FRIDAY, Nov. 2nd.

Bonjour,

The SKs started Friday off with a house game, bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella. Students then wrote their Spelling Test for October. A few kids have a re-test on Monday. 
For the rest of the morning, students had their Unit of Inquiry; we continued our fun learning on Halloween (T-5 days!). Today students listened to another story on Trick or Treating and then we played Halloween Bingo!
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). Show & Share for "Mm" & "Dd" was today; thank you to the students who shared "M"arker, "M"ickey "M"ouse, "D"inosaurs, & "D"oll! Students then had Reading Buddies with Ms. Elliott's class.
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.  
ATTENTION: GYM CLOTHES ARE TO BE WORN ONLY ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS!
At the end of the day, the SKs did an amazing job on our Art activity; today we read a Monster book & then created the green monster from the story!

Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Drama class immediately after. For the rest of the morning, in our Unit of Inquiry  for Holidays, students listened to a Halloween story about "Trick or Treating" and then had a lesson about syllables (what they are, how they are used, why they are important to know). Students had to complete a worksheet with Halloween pictures and count how many syllables each word has.
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). The SKs then had a lesson in Math; we continued our unit on Data Management. Today students practiced how to cut & paste & sort pictures into 2 different categories: Could it happen? Yes or No. 
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.  
ATTENTION: GYM CLOTHES ARE TO BE WORN ONLY ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS!
At the end of the day, the SKs worked on Phonics. This week we will work on letters "Mm" & "Dd". Today students worked on "Dd" again, with a worksheet.

 Bonjour,

The SKs started Wednesday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Music class immediately after. Today we switched gears and concentrated on our "Feelings" Unit of Inquiry. The "Feeling of the Day" was SAD; we read a book ("Glad Monster, Sad Monster") about this emotion & then continued working on our "Emotions booklet". Students had to colour the picture that relates to this feeling and write a sentence about it.
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). The SKs then had a lesson in Math; we continued our unit on Data Management. Today students practiced how to properly create a graph using Smarties candy - Oh what delicious time we had with this activity!
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.  
ATTENTION: GYM CLOTHES ARE TO BE WORN ONLY ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS!
At the end of the day, the SKs worked on Phonics. This week we will work on letters "Mm" & "Dd". Today students worked on printing "Dd" in their workbook. We also reviewed "Short a" & "Long a" vowel sounds with a challenging worksheet.

Bonjour,

The SKs started Tuesday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Drama class immediately after. Today we learned about the Mexican holiday known as "Cinco de Mayo", which means "The 5th of May" in Spanish. Students watched a short YouTube video on this holiday and for their follow-up activity they created a booklet of "Popular Mexican Symbols". For this booklet each student had to colour the picture of the symbol and print what the picture is (eg - flag of Mexico, sombrero/hat, etc).
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). The SKs then had a lesson in Math; we continued our unit on Data Management. Today students practiced how to properly create a picture graph.
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.

Bonjour,

The SKs started Monday off with bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc).
Students then practiced French with Madame Stella and attended Music class immediately after. Today boys & girls focused more on our 2nd Unit of Inquiry on Holidays (Let's Get Festive!). Today's holiday is one that we hold close to our hearts: Canada Day!  Students learned about our national holiday by first listening to a read-aloud about Canada & the significance of our flag. Following the book, students completed a "My Canadian Symbols" booklet that consists of pictures of different things/people that represent Canada (Examples: beaver, loon, hockey, etc). Students had to colour & label each picture.
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). The SKs then had a lesson in Math; we continued our unit on Data Management. Students are still practicing how to properly create a bar graph. Today we graphed "What is your favourite animal?"
Students also attended Physical Education with Mr. Rojas.

Bonjour,

The SKs started Friday off with a fun "relay race" House Game! After they returned to class, students had bell work and morning circle time (special helper/calendar/weather, etc). Students had French class with Madame Stella as well.
Students had Show & Share for "Hh" & "Rr": "H"elicopter, "H"ands, "R"abbit, "R"aisins, and "R"ing! Following sharing, for our Unit of Inquiry students discussed one of their most-anticipated "holidays": Birthdays! The class made a list of why birthdays are so special and what we do to celebrate. They were instructed to write (w/illustration) a journal response on "How do you celebrate your birthday?"
After first lunch/recess, students had storytime (book chosen by the Special Helper). Students then worked on their journal task from the morning (this has been sent home to be completed for homework this weekend). They then had  Reading Buddies with Ms. Elliott's class.
After second lunch/recess, for Art, students made a cool skeleton in honour of Halloween, that is coming up very soon!
